  1. THIS UPDATE IS FOR QUICKEN HOME INVENTORY 3 FOR WINDOWS, RELEASE 6 OR LOWER.
  2. =============================================================================
  3. If you are not running Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows, Release 6 
  4. or lower, this update will have no effect on your software.
  5.  
  6. TO CHECK THE RELEASE NUMBER OF YOUR VERSION QUICKEN HOME INVENTORY:
  7.  
  8. 1.    Start Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows
  9. 2.     With Quicken Home Inventory open, hold down the Shift key while choosing 
  10.     "About Quicken Home Inventory" from the Help Menu.
  11. 3.    A window appears. The first line will say:
  12.     QHI 3 for Windows, Rn
  13.     Where the "n" is located, a number will appear i.e. 2, 4, 
  14.     or 6.  This is the "Release Number" of your version of 
  15.     Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows.

  17. If you are using Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows and have Release 6 or 
  18. lower, follow the instructions below to run the update.

  20. UPDATING QUICKEN HOME INVENTORY 3 FOR WINDOWS
  21. =============================================
  22. You may update either from a floppy disk, or from your hard drive.
  23.  
  24. TO UPDATE FROM A FLOPPY DISK:
  25.  
  26. 1.    Exit from Windows into DOS. 
  27.     DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE UPDATE FROM THE DOS PROMPT WHILE IN 
  28.     WINDOWS.  The update will not install correctly, and other 
  29.     problems may develop.
  30. 2.    Change to your floppy drive to access the files.
  31. 3.    To run the update, type QHI3R8 followed by the path of your
  32.     Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows directory and the
  33.     directory in which you installed Windows. Then press Enter.
  34.     Example:  QHI3R8 C:\QUICKENW  C:\WINDOWS

  36. TO UPDATE FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE:
  37.  
  38. 1.    Create a directory on your hard drive called UPDATE.  
  39. 2.    Change to your floppy drive to access the files.
  40. 3.    Copy the Quicken Home Inventory Update files into the directory.
  41.     Example:  COPY *.* C:\UPDATE\
  42. 4.    Exit from Windows into DOS. 
  43.     DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE UPDATE FROM THE DOS PROMPT WHILE IN 
  44.     WINDOWS.  The update will not install correctly, and other 
  45.     problems may develop.
  46. 5.    To run the update, change to the UPDATE directory, and type 
  47.     QHI3R8 followed by the path of your Quicken Home Inventory 3 for Windows 
  48.     directory and the directory in which you installed Windows. 
  49.     Then press Enter.
  50.     Example:  C:>\UPDATE\QHI3R8 C:\QUICKENW  C:\WINDOWS

  52. CHECKING THE UPDATE
  53. ===================
  54. Once the update is complete, you will have Release 8 of Quicken Home Inventory
  55. 3 for Windows.  This can be verified by using the steps described above in 
  56. "To Check the Release Number..." As long as "About Quicken Home Inventory" 
  57. displays Release 8, Quicken Home Inventory has been updated correctly.

  59. REMOVING THE UPDATE FILES
  60. =========================
  61. Once you have confirmed that the update was successful by checking the release 
  62. number,  you can safely remove the files that were used in the update process 
  63. (if you ran Update from your hard drive). All of these files will be located 
  64. in the UPDATE directory where you copied them. The files that can be deleted 
  65. are:
  66.     QHI3R8.BAT
  67.     QHI3R8.RTP
  68.     QHI3R8.RTD
  69.     PATCH.EXE
  70.     README.TXT
  71.     CHKVER.EXE
  72.     QCONNECT.DLL
